Mediapipe Platform
The Mediapipe platform is designed to streamline and optimize media processing workflows by providing tools for dashboard management, VOD pipelines, live pipelines, search features, task assignments, configuration, presets, distribution, packaging groups, and ad-monetization. Despite its robust capabilities, users faced several challenges that impacted their overall experience.
Key pain points included difficulties filtering and locating presets due to a lack of text-based search functionality, an overly spacious tile layout that reduced visibility, and unclear interactability of editable presets. Additionally, cognitive overload from ambiguous icons made navigation cumbersome. These issues hindered efficiency and user satisfaction, prompting the need for a UX and UI redesign that addressed these challenges while maintaining the platform’s powerful functionality. Our goal was to create an intuitive, user-centric interface that simplifies workflows, reduces cognitive load, and enhances productivity.

What We’ve Done
1. Conducted a thorough review of the existing design, user journey mapping, and platform workflows alongside backend and frontend developers.
2. Performed a competitive analysis of similar platforms in the market to identify industry best practices and areas for improvement.
3. Evaluated and refined the design system, introducing new user flows and UI designs to enhance simplicity and usability.
4. Collected and analyzed insights from existing customers to understand their pain points and usability challenges in-depth.
5. Tested the redesigned interface and workflows with current clients to ensure the proposed solutions addressed their needs effectively.
Creative Process
Reviewing Existing Design and User Journeys
We conducted an in-depth review of the platform’s existing design and user journeys, collaborating closely with backend and frontend developers. This step revealed inefficiencies in the current layout, usability issues, and areas of improvement. We identified the need for multiple layout options and better visibility of key features to simplify user workflows and ensure users could accomplish tasks without frustration. This collaboration enabled us to address both technical feasibility and user-centered solutions effectively.
Insights from Existing Customers
Through user interviews and surveys, we collected feedback from current Mediapipe users to validate design decisions and prioritize improvements. These insights clarified user preferences, such as the need for better filtering options and contextual prompts when creating new presets. This user-centric approach ensured that the redesign directly addressed customer challenges and expectations.
Competitive Analysis
We analyzed leading platforms in the media management space to understand best practices and innovative design approaches. Competitors like AWS Media Services and Azure provided insights into layout optimization, clear navigation, and usability enhancements. These insights helped us refine our approach to creating a user-friendly interface while maintaining a unique value proposition for Mediapipe users.
Proposed Information Architecture
Based on the competitive analysis and insights gathered from user feedback, we proposed a refined information architecture for the Mediapipe platform. The new structure focuses on simplifying complex workflows, enhancing task management visibility, and streamlining content creation and delivery processes. Key changes include introducing a centralized dashboard for real-time task monitoring, clear filtering options for presets, and intuitive categorization to support user navigation. This architecture aims to improve efficiency, reduce cognitive load, and enhance the overall user experience by providing a seamless and organized platform structure.
Redesigning User Flows and Proposing UI Enhancements
Leveraging our findings, we restructured user flows to address pain points and enhance usability. The updated UI introduced table-based and simplified tile layouts, improving item visibility and enabling users to interact seamlessly with presets. Key buttons were given prominent placement and clear labels, ensuring primary functions were easily discoverable and reducing cognitive overload during navigation.
Testing and Iteration with Existing Clients
We tested the new designs with existing clients to evaluate usability and gather actionable feedback. The iterative testing process allowed us to identify and resolve any remaining pain points before deployment. By engaging real users in the testing phase, we ensured the updated platform met their needs effectively, resulting in a polished, intuitive solution.
Insights
1. Adjust Video Settings: Most testers found it intuitive, with minor improvements suggested for labeling options more explicitly.
2. Preview Video Based on Settings: Preview functionality was appreciated but required slight adjustments to improve ease of switching between settings.
3. Use Analytics Features: Analytics capabilities received mixed reactions due to the complexity of multi-layered options, requiring better onboarding materials.
4. View Video Timeline: Effective for most testers, with clarity improvements suggested for representing modified vs. created timestamps.
5. Identify Objects in Video: Well-received, but further refinement in object-tagging accuracy was recommended.
